What if we could be off work every month…

In 2021, I collaborated with Shun, a DJ, and Sumo, a graphic designer, to form a temporary music group called 33WLC. Off Work Everyday is one of Shun’s Citypop music series, where each digital album cover was illustrated by me. The purpose of this project was to provide relaxation and cheer to those who felt frustrated, anxious, or helpless during the pandemic.

This series comprises eight digital albums - representing the seven days of the week plus one bonus day. The illustration concept revolves around the fusion of two parallel universes. The background visuals depict real landscapes in Japan, while the panels unveil related fleeting moments. Subtle elements are strategically placed to bridge these two visuals. Drawing scenes from my past visits to Japan evokes a sense of nostalgia. Ultimately, my aim with this series is to offer enjoyment through art and music. Let's stay relaxed, embrace happiness, and live free from anxiety and insomnia.

In 2022, I introduced a new series called 'Off Work Every Month' as part of the 'Off Work' project. Collaborating with 12 friends residing in 12 different cities across China, each friend recommends their favorite spot in their respective cities.

This monthly series follows the style and concept of the weekly project, but with a twist: each month showcases a different Chinese cityscape as the main picture, accompanied by a small box featuring a favorite activity from a particular era, presented in animated form.

The illustrations depict the beloved places, while the animations capture the small, meaningful moments they've experienced over the past year.

For those unable to travel around China, join us as we virtually explore snowy palaces, enjoy a cup of tea in the park, savor an omelet at a café, feel the ocean waves at sunset, and breathe in the salty air. Experience the love and warmth of these cherished moments with us.
